I Missed It Again...

Once again, in a location (Inukjuak) that regularly has polar bears wandering around... I missed it! A decent sized bear wandered through town the other morning while I was pouring my first coffee of the day. (Well, actually he only made it half way through.) Anyway, it seemed strange that there were so many other people up and about so early but it never occurred to me that Nanook might be around. Oh well, a polar bear sighting outside of a zoo still evades me but I'll probably stumble into one when I'm walking home with an armload of groceries some night.

Hitchin' a Ride...

I found this new blog called Manitoulin Riders by reading “Current Thoughts” the other day. It’s an idea that’s been put forth to me before in my message board but was never really picked up on. I hope it is this time…

The idea is that it is a place for people to offer or look for rides to and from Manitoulin and I think it’s a great idea. People are always looking for a ride to Sudbury or Sault Ste Marie or Toronto or who knows where. If you can help out just post your dates and times and you may just find someone to help cover the gas costs.

My problem would be offering or taking a ride with someone I don’t know. Normally I won’t pick up hitchhikers although I have been known to stop for people between Wikwemikong and Manitowaning or Little Current. I try to take a good look before stopping though and yes, I know, we’re not supposed to judge people on how they look but I’m old and I just can’t help it. If I get a funny feeling I just don’t stop, no matter how hard it’s raining.

New Sound... New Blogs... 100.7 "The Island"

Most of you know my opinion of country & western music but to be honest I do have a little bit of Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Don Williams, Stompin' Tom and a couple others in my collection. My personal tastes run to Jimmy Hendrix, Steppenwolf, Steely Dan, 10 Years After, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Grand Funk Railroad and even a little Marilyn Manson. Oh, we can't forget Thelonious Monk, Leonard Cohen, Diana Krull and Bob Dylan either!

At any rate I'm more than a little impressed with the new format of The Island FM 100.7 with their super new Web Site, a News Blog and an Events Blog listing all coming events here on Manitoulin. It's going to be a great source of information for all of us who want to keep up to date on what's happening. Check it out, I think you'll like it too!

Ok, so this is getting addictive...

How about it… anyone else out there hooked on these things? This particular one comes off Shockwave and I always try to get one done while guzzling my first morning coffee.

I'm slowly progressing up from the "easy" level and can now get most of the "medium" ones fairly quickly. HOWEVER, I've yet to finish a "hard" level at all. Eventually I'll try one of the "fiendish" puzzles that I post on Our Manitoulin! but that's a long, long ways away!
